South Barrington is a residential suburb in Cook County, Illinois, United States, south of Barrington.Per the 2020 census, the population was 5,077.It is the location of the famous megachurch Willow Creek Community Church, Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch and Farm, and a lifestyle center (shopping center) named The Arboretum of South Barrington.

When voters declined to create a tax-supported library, the Barrington Woman’s Club established a library in a local drug store with donated books and a volunteer staff. After its 1915 opening, the library made several moves to larger quarters until 1924, when the Barrington Village Board offered space in Village Hall.
In 1977, the church purchased 90 acres (360,000 m 2) in South Barrington to build its own building. The first service was held in the new building in February 1981. Since then, the building has been doubled in size and the property expanded to 155 acres (0.63 km 2). In 2004, it inaugurated a new 7,200-seat auditorium on the same campus.
Although the village of Barrington incorporated in 1865, [6] the area did not have a dedicated permanent high school until 1949. [7] Before that, Barrington had a K-12 school on Hough Street. On February 8, 1947, the village held an election to choose a site for a new high school. [ 7 ]
