MacDonald Broadcasting began in 1962 when Kenneth MacDonald (Sr.) moved from Ann Arbor to Saginaw and purchased WSAM from the estate of the late Fred Knorr. [3] The station broadcasts on AM 1400, it was originally located at Weiss and Bay Streets on Saginaw's west side but had since moved to Whittier Street on Saginaw's east side, where it remains to this day. [4]
WSAM (1400 AM) is a radio station licensed to Saginaw, Michigan and broadcasting at 1400 kHz with 1,000 watts of power. The station is simulcasted with FM sister station WSAG-FM at 104.1 MHz and are collectively known as The Bay, in reference to their close proximity to the Saginaw Bay.
Since MacDonald owned then competitor WKCQ, the station's format was flipped to classic rock and was known as Eagle 97.3 with the call sign WEEG. In 2004, the station became Joe-FM , a variety hits format modeled after Jack FM , and changed its call signs once again to WMJO.
