This parable compares building one's life on the teachings and example of Jesus to a flood-resistant building founded on solid rock. The Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builders (also known as the House on the Rock), is a parable of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew as well as in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke ().
The story is told in the synoptic gospels (Mark 3:1–6, Matthew 12:9–13, Luke 6:6–11). In a synagogue, Jesus calls forward a man with a withered hand on a Sabbath.
