The Meditation Singers was a Gospel music group formed by Ernestine Rundless in the late 1940s. The original members were Earnestine Rundless, DeLillian Mitchell, Marie Waters, and Waters sister, Deloreese Early, who is now known as Della Reese.
Della Reese, who segued from singing stardom to a long career as a popular TV actress on 'Touched By an Angel,' died on Sunday night.
Della was recorded at RCA Victor studios in New York City during three weeks in October 1959, with Reese backed by a big band conducted and arranged by Neal Hefti. [6] Prior to the full band sessions, Reese was asked to record and rehearse the songs in front of her producers Luigi Creatore and Hugo Peretti, with George Butcher accompanying Reese on piano.
In the late 1990s, Reese appeared in series of television films including Emma's Wish and Anya's Bell. During this period, she also made six appearances in the show Promised Land. Reese continued acting through the 2000s and the early part of the 2010s. Among her film appearances of this period was 2005's Beauty Shop and 2010's Expecting Mary.
In 1996, he appeared as Andrew the "Angel of Death" on Touched by an Angel with Roma Downey & Della Reese. Originally cast as a recurring character, by the third season, he was made a regular cast member as his character quickly became popular. The show ran for nine seasons before ending in April 2003.
He worked with Della Reese to adapt and arrange 12 songs for her 1960 album Della, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. [11] [12] Hefti moved back to Los Angeles in 1960.
