Sunol (Spanish: Suñol) is an unincorporated area and census-designated place in Alameda County, California. Located in the Sunol Valley of the East Bay , the population was 922 at the 2020 census. It is best known as the location of the Sunol Water Temple and for its historic tourist railroad system, the Niles Canyon Railway .
The Sunol Valley Rock Quarry is located within the Sunol Valley; this facility has been used as the source for fill material in a considerable amount of the land development for neighboring communities. In the course of excavating this quarry for such fill, chemical analysis has been conducted to ascertain the safety of such soils.

Bosco Ramos was a dog elected honorary mayor of the unincorporated community of Sunol, California, United States. [1] [2] [3] He was a black Labrador retriever and Rottweiler mix, [2] [4] usually known simply as "Bosco". Bosco defeated two humans to win the honorary mayoral election in 1981, [1] [2] and served until his death in 1994.
In 1954, the church was painted brown and renamed The Little Brown Church of Sunol. [2] Bachelder built the town's hotel, Hazel Glen, which he sold in 1890, and burned down 1910. Bachelder built the Kilkare Road in town. In 1884, Bachelder did a subdivision of his land, thus became the founder of the City of Sunol.

Mission Pass, also known as the Sunol Grade [1] and formerly as Stockton Pass, is a gap in the hills of the Mount Hamilton Range in Alameda County, California. It lies to the northeast of Mission San José, in Fremont, and leads from there into the Sunol Valley. Its elevation is 659 feet (201 m) above sea level.
