To Beep or Not to Beep is a Merrie Melodies animated short starring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.Released on December 28, 1963, the cartoon was written by Chuck Jones, John Dunn, Michael Maltese [1] (albeit uncredited), and directed by Jones, Maurice Noble and Tom Ray were the co-directors (albeit the latter is left uncredited). The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote had a crossover with the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in Lobo/Road Runner Special #1. In this version, the Road Runner, Wile E., and other Looney Tunes characters are reimagined as standard animals who were experimented upon with alien DNA at Acme to transform them into their cartoon forms.
The bird beeps and zooms away, starting the chase. Wile E. takes a straight-line shortcut instead of the road to catch up. Before Wile E. can come close. However, the Road Runner sets the road ablaze with his blinding speed, causing Wile E. to burn his feet. He stomps out the fire on his paws but finds his tail also burning.
Baby Wile E. and Baby Road Runner appear in multiple songs, as do Baby Pepé (Terry Klassen), Baby Porky, and Baby Sam. Baby Marvin (voiced by Samuel Vincent) – An alien toddler from Mars. He appears in War of The Weirds. He is timid and meek but friendly Martian who was visiting for a while.
The short is briefly featured in the 1996 film Space Jam, using the scene of Wile E.'s tightwire attempt.In the film's version of the scene, after Wile E. is brought down to the road by the Anvil's weight, Porky Pig shows up and interrupts the cartoon to inform Wile E. and Road Runner of an emergency meeting concerning the Tunes being taken to Moron Mountain.
The Road Runner alerts the Coyote, who promptly falls into the canyon with an angry arm-folded glare. He manages to climb back up the mountain again, but no sooner does he do so than the Road Runner, on another plateau, beeps again. 2.
