The most common type of octane rating worldwide is the Research Octane Number (RON). RON is determined by running the fuel in a test engine at 600 rpm with a variable compression ratio under controlled conditions, and comparing the results with those for mixtures of iso-octane and n-heptane. [8]
For example, if the static compression ratio is 10:1, and the dynamic compression ratio is 7.5:1, a useful value for cylinder pressure would be 7.5 1.3 × atmospheric pressure, or 13.7 bar (relative to atmospheric pressure). The two corrections for dynamic compression ratio affect cylinder pressure in opposite directions, but not in equal strength.
The compression ratio was also dropped to 9.6:1. Whilst not ideal from an efficiency standpoint, it does reduce heat and stress on the engine which increases durability; an essential attribute for marine duty. It also allows 87 octane rated fuels to be used.
For RWD based applications, the 2.0L turbo MPI in the 2009–2012 Genesis Coupe, compression ratio is 9.5:1 and it produces 210–213 PS (154–157 kW; 207–210 hp) at 6,000 rpm and on 91 RON/87 octane gasoline, and 226 PS (166 kW; 223 hp) at 6,000 rpm on 98 RON/93 octane . Torque remains the same at 30.5 kg⋅m (221 lb⋅ft; 299 N⋅m) at ...
Fuel type: 87 octane; Cooling system: air-cooled; ... Compression ratio: 6.7:1; Power-to-weight ratio: 1.0 kW/kg (0.6 hp/lb) ...
Compression ratio 6:1, 630–660 PS (621–651 hp) at up to 1650 rpm at sea level, 80 Octane fuel BMW VI 7.3 Compression ratio 7.3:1 680–750 PS (671–740 hp) at up to 1700 rpm at sea level, 87 Octane fuel
Compression ratio is 11.0:1, and despite having port fuel injection (as opposed to direct injection) the engine can still be run on 87 octane gasoline. The Coyote features all new 4 valve DOHC cylinder heads that have shifted the camshafts outboard, which allowed for a compact roller finger follower setup with remote hydraulic valve lash ...
