SH 300 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 80 on the west side of Longview, and travels northwest through residential sections of the city. The route continues to the northwest, passing through agricultural sections of southeastern Upshur County before reaching its terminus at U.S. Route 271 and State Highway 155 on the far southern edge of Gilmer.
Loop 281 begins at a partial cloverleaf interchange with I-20/US 259/SH 322 in southern Longview; the highway continues south past I-20/US 259 as SH 322. Upshur County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,892. [1] The county seat is Gilmer. [2] The county is named for Abel P. Upshur, who was U.S. Secretary of State during President John Tyler's administration.
On November 16, 1937, SH 154 was extended to Gilmer. [6] On September 26, 1939, it was extended southeast from Gilmer to Marshall along its current route. This extension replaced part of SH 155. [7] On August 24, 1960, the section north of Sulphur Springs was transferred to SH 19.
On May 23, 1951, Farm to Market Road 652 (FM 652) was assigned to a 6.5-mile (10.5 km) road from US 285 at Orla, northeastward. On November 21, 1956, it was extended northeastward 10.0 miles (16.1 km) to its current eastern terminus at the New Mexico state line.
