It was created in 1999 from parts of Burlington South, Halton Centre, and a small part of South Oakville. When the riding was created, it included the city of Burlington east of a line following the Queen Elizabeth Way to Highway 403 to King Road and south of a line following Dundas Street to the 403 to Upper Middle Road to Walkers Line.

It is an English school in the Halton District School Board that as of September 2017 serves approximately 1600 grade 9-12 students. [2] In its first year, Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School served approximately 600 students in grades 9–10. [3] The school is named for Special Olympics pioneer Dr Frank J. Hayden. [4]
The high school has had numerous sporting successes. The school won a Halton title in men's hockey in 2006. The men's basketball team has had success with back to back Halton titles in 1992 and 1993, 3 repetitive Halton titles from 2005 to 2007 and one in 1988, with 3 Peel-GHAC championships and subsequent appearances at the OFSAA provincial championship tournament in 1988, 1993, 2006 and 2007.
