The first-generation Mazda6 was launched in Japan as the Mazda Atenza in May 2002. The model lineup consisted of a four-door sedan, a four-door hatchback and a five-door wagon, marketed in North America as the "Sport Sedan", "5-Door" and "Sport Wagon", respectively. [9]
In the Philippines, under Mazda's local distributor Berjaya Auto Philippines, the third generation Mazda6 sedan went on-sale by the end of 2013 as a 2014 model year. It was followed by a 5-door station wagon variant, the Mazda6 Sports Wagon in late 2014 for the 2015 model year (with a diesel engine variant later on for 2016 to 2018).

Mazda offered two trim levels with the Mazdaspeed3. The Grand Touring model (pictured) has few outwardly visible differences from the Mazdaspeed3 Sport but includes leather and lycra weave logo-embroidered racing seats, Bose stereo with 6-CD in-dash changer, automatic Xenon headlamps with manual leveling control, LED tail lights (the main visible difference), and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
