Varina Farms, also known as Varina Plantation or Varina Farms Plantation or Varina on the James, is a plantation established in the 17th century on the James River about 10 miles (16 km) south of Richmond, Virginia. [3] An 820-acre (330 ha) property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 as "Varina Plantation".
Matthew Edloe I arrived in Virginia in 1618 aboard the Neptune, Lord Delaware's ship, and 1637 his son and heir Matthew Edloe II patented 1,200 acres in Charles City County, Virginia. Prince George County was formed from the portion of Charles City located south of the James River in 1703.
Virginia militia also camped there in the War of 1812. However, it is best known as the site of bloody Battle of Malvern Hill in 1862, during the American Civil War. [6] In August 2016, the 871-acre Malvern Hill Farm was listed for sale for $10.6 million by the descendants of William H. Ferguson Sr. (1885–1984). [7]

Falkland is a historic plantation house located at Redd Shop, Prince Edward County, Virginia. It was built about 1750, and the frame dwelling consists of a two-story, four-bay, central block with one-story flanking wings. It has a hall-and-parlor plan. A two-story, two-bay frame rear ell was added in the 1850s. [3]
