The 1969 Rothmans 12 Hour Classic was an endurance motor race for production cars [1] held at the Surfers Paradise International Raceway in Queensland, Australia on 5 January 1969. [2] It was the first of two such races to be held at the circuit. [3] The race was won by Bill Gates and Jim Bertram driving a Ford XT Falcon GT. [2]

The Sunbeam Alpine Fastback, introduced in October 1969, was essentially a Rapier with a simplified specification, developed to fill a gap in the Arrow range above the Singer Vogue. It used the same 1,725 cc (105.3 cu in) engine as the Hillman Hunter which, fitted with a single Stromberg 150CD carburettor, developed 74 hp (55 kW) at 5500 rpm.
In 1934 the Hillman Wizard "65" and "75" were replaced by the 2110 cc Hillman "16 hp" and 2810cc "20/70", which lasted until 1936 when a new body design in the form of the 2576 cc Hillman "Sixteen" and the 3181 cc "Hawk" and "80", all with side valve straight-six engines, were introduced. These later cars were also sold as Humbers.
