Pterinochilus murinus or the orange baboon tarantula, [2] is a nocturnal spider in the family Theraphosidae that was first described in 1897 by Reginald Innes Pocock. Pelinobius or the king baboon spider [citation needed] is a monotypic genus of east African tarantulas containing the single species, Pelinobius muticus. It was first described by Ferdinand Anton Franz Karsch in 1885, [ 3 ] and is found in Tanzania and Kenya .
The name "tarantula" is commonly given to spiders in this family. It is a misnomer - it was originally given to a smaller wolf spider from Taranto, Italy, where, in the Middle Ages, people danced themselves into a trance - called the tarantella - in an attempt to purge the effects of the wolf spider's bite.
