Sutomo (October 3, 1920 - October 7, 1981; also known as Bung Tomo) is best known for his role as an Indonesian military leader during the Indonesian War of Independence against the Netherlands. He played a central role in Battle of Surabaya when the British attacked the city in October and November 1945.

Finally, in July 2001 at a Special Session of the MPR, Wahid was removed as president. Megawati was then elected as president to replace him with Hamzah as her vice president, becoming Indonesia's first female president. They party, however, faced further splits after Megawati became president with more disillusioned members leaving the party.

The inauguration of Megawati Sukarnoputri as the 5th president of Indonesia took place on Monday, 23 July 2001. The ceremony was held at the Parliamentary Complex shortly after the MPR vote her to become president, the ceremony also marked the end of Abdurrahman Wahid's term as president following his impeachment after the presidential decree on the same day.
