John Alfred Taylor (December 1928 – February 3, 2023 [1]) was an American broadcaster who was the host of The Jack Taylor Show on 1220 WKRS Radio in the Chicago area.. His career in broadcasting began in the Armed Forces Radio, then took him to WINN in Louisville, Kentucky, and in 1950, to WCFL in Chicago.
Wayne P. Messmer (born July 19, 1950, in Chicago, IL) [1] is a professional speaker, singer, broadcaster, author and actor. He is a professional member of SAG/AFTRA and the National Speakers Association. He was the long-time public address announcer for the Chicago Cubs.
In 1977, the station began sharing time on the frequency with WDCB. [7] WEPS moved to its current 88.9 MHz frequency in 1987, after reaching an agreement with WDCB, which allowed WDCB to begin full-time operations. [7] [8] The station became an affiliate of Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network on September 28, 2005.
On September 28, 2012, the FCC granted Chicago Public Media a construction permit to move the station's transmitter site to its new location. [21] On October 12, 2012, Chicago Public Media applied with the FCC change the station's frequency to 90.7 MHz FM. [22] On November 15, 2012 the FCC granted a construction permit for the move to 90.7 MHz.
