The Sea Cut is fed by small streams and becks mainly draining water away from the hills on the western side of Scalby and Newby.In response to major flooding on the River Derwent in 1799, a canalised beck was cut between Everley and Newby Bridge (the present day A171 road bridge that spans the beck between Newby and Scalby). The road from Camden to Sykesville was signed as part of the Camp Dix Way, an auto trail extending from Camden to Point Pleasant. The road from Camden to what is now US 206 was part of Route 38 until a bypass route was built. Another CR 537 Spur previously existed, which is now CR 613 and CR 614 in Burlington County. [5]

At the 2000 census, [13] there were 11,368 people, 4,645 households, and 3,376 families residing in the county. The population density was 46 people per square mile (18 people/km 2).
The church is the oldest recorded building in the village. Records show its presentation in 1150 by Eustace Fitz John. The chancel arch and pillars are of that time and the first recorded priest, inducted in 1238, was Henry Devon. It is designated a Grade II* listed building. [5] In addition there is Scalby Methodist Chapel and the Church Rooms.
The oldest part of the miller's cottage was constructed around 1730 and features Dutch/Flemish architecture. The grist mill, located across the street from the miller's cottage, was likely built in the second quarter of the 19th century. The three-arch stone bridge over the Pike Run was built around the 1820s. [3] [4]
