Deerfield Academy (often called Deerfield or DA) is an independent college-preparatory boarding and day school in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1797, it is one of the oldest secondary schools in the United States. It is a member of the Eight Schools Association and the Ten Schools Admission Organization.
Deerfield Academy is led by a Head of School selected by the Board of Trustees. During the Academy's history, the position has been known as Preceptor (1799-1851), Principal (1851-1902), Headmaster (1902-2006), and Head of School (2006-).

From tenth grade, he went to Deerfield Academy, a preparatory high school in Deerfield, Massachusetts, as a financial aid student. [7] [8] He was active in the school's theater program, acting in the plays Antigone and Rumors and directing an excerpt from No Exit. [9] As of September 2023, Sessa is a student at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama.
He then served as Deerfield Academy's 54th Headmaster from 1994 to 2006, and was succeeded in that post by Margarita O'Byrne Curtis. He left the school to assume the position of founding headmaster at King's Academy in Madaba, Jordan, [2] [3] which began its first academic year in fall 2007. He spoke six languages including French and Chinese.
