The saga has numerous parallels to the Saga of the Greenlanders, including recurring characters and accounts of the same expeditions and events, but differs in describing two base camps, at Straumfjord and Hop, whereas in the Saga of the Greenlanders Thorfinn Karlsefni and those with him settle in a place that is referred to simply as Vinland.
Einar was created by Makoto Yukimura in order to create a supporting character for the manga in order to assist Thorfinn and help him come to appreciate his vitality. The staff from the anime adaptation decided to alter part of their story but keep his characterization intact.

After a drawn-out fight with the retainers over the damaged crop, Einar is still standing, and the retainers decide to withdraw.
