Levothyroxine. Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T 4 ). [ 5][ 8] It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism), including a severe form known as myxedema coma.
