Experiencing double vision through loupes. This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you. I'm about to start my 2nd year of dental school, so it's time for me to get my hands on some loupes. Last semester, I was measured and ordered the Rydon frame with 2.5x mag from Orascoptic.
I wanted more from the beginning, and four months ago I bought a sweet new setup. I stayed with Orascoptic because if ease, but they also were the only people to have what I wanted (3-5x mag in one, cordless light with batteries in back instead of front). I would probably hit up DFV, Orascoptic, QOptics.
The frames are comfortable and sturdy. I would definitely recommend the built in light/battery option as it makes the weight distribution better. Probably my #3 option in loupes behind #1 Zeiss EyeMagPro and #2 Exam Vision w/ Leica lenses. Orascoptic reps should be offering a 60 day trial free period where they don't charge you to try them out.
Another way to see it is that a part of the extra field that should be seen through a 3.5 EyeZoom Mini is lost in the black circle surrounding the image circle, while the image circle with the 4.5 was larger, covering an extra field partly compensating for the extra magnification. And this is exactly that feature that I loved with the HDL 4.5.
661. Oct 3, 2006. #11. TTL vs. flip ups. Basically less moving parts = less chance of breakage. I've got 2 pairs of orascoptics myself, my 2.5x TTL's that I use as my "everyday" loupes for about 90% my procedures, and a pair of 4.5x TTL's that I use for endo and some final finish work crown and bridge procedures.
Reaction score. Jan 28, 2016. #3. Zeiss is an overall better product. If you get the prismatics, the head strap is recommended given the extreme weight of the Zeiss setup. The EyeZoom is pretty awesome, cordless is awesome. Can't go wrong either way. If angle of declination is a huge factor for you, than Zeiss all day.
I have found them to be extremely useful for every procedure, even when I did prophies and perio in school. Sometimes they are even helpful for denture adjustments and such. Surgitel or orascoptic will give you the most ergonomic loupes, which is some of the best money you can spend. Went from 2.5 to 4.5.
Orascoptic does not offer the 3.3x with adjustable working length. Only 3.8x and up. Also, the 3.3x are not expanded field (EF). I highly suggest you go with the 3.8x EF loupes if you're thinking of going with orascoptic. You will be able to see more of the arch with the 3.8xEF vs. 3.3x.
This is a sales reps response to me asking about orascoptic vs Exam vision. "Yes we currently sell both Ora and Exam Vision but we have decided to bring. in Exam Vision as it is a better product and we will be moving away from. Orascoptic. Surgitel is #4 in the sales and their product is not of the same.
Here’s what I found: 1) 3.5x was lighter on my face. 2) 3.5x has a shorter barrel and allowed more light in easily. The image I saw through the 4.5x prismatic was darker. 3) I learned that the 3.5x was also more forgiving as far as depth of field went. Whereas with 4.5x prismatic, it was less so.
