Athlone (/ æ θ ˈ l oʊ n /; Irish: Baile Átha Luain, meaning 'The town of Luan's ford' [ˌbʲlʲɑː ˈl̪ˠuənʲ]) [2] is a town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located on the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree.
In October 2002, it was announced that a planning permission application was sent to Westmeath County Council to construct a 49-bedroom hotel with a restaurant and a further 44 aparthotel units alongside renovating the original house on the 1.9 acres (0.77 ha) site. [6] By July 2004, the house was being extensively renovated.

Rathconnell (Irish: Rú Chonaill) [1] is a civil parish in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located about 8.6 kilometres (5 mi) north–east of Mullingar on the N52 road. Rathconnell is one of 3 civil parishes in the barony of Moyashel and Magheradernon in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 16,206.9 acres (65.587 km 2).
Westmeath is an active sporting county. The Westmeath GAA senior football team won the Leinster Senior Football Championship, the Delaney Cup, in 2004. They also won the National Football League Division 2 in 2001, 2003 and 2008. The Westmeath senior hurling team has enjoyed much recent success winning the Christy Ring Cup in 2005, 2007 and 2010.
