William Emil Hess (February 13, 1898 – July 14, 1986) was an American lawyer and politician who served three lengthy, non-consecutive stints as a Republican and a U.S. Representative from Ohio between 1929 and 1961.

The Jay Cooke House (also known as Cooke Castle), is a historic summer estate house on Gibraltar Island, an island in the Lake Erie community of Put-in-Bay, Ohio.Built in 1865, it was the summer house and a favorite place of financier Jay Cooke (1821–1905).
The small island is divided between the U.S. states of Michigan and Ohio, with the abandoned lighthouse structure located within Ohio. When Turtle Island fell back to federal ownership, the newly established Port of Toledo received $5,000 of federal funding from the United States Congress to build the lighthouse in 1831. [ 1 ]
