Anders Leonard Zorn (18 February 1860 – 22 August 1920) was a Swedish artist who attained international success as a painter, sculptor, and etching artist. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] His portrait subjects include King Oscar II of Sweden and three American Presidents : Grover Cleveland , William H. Taft , and Theodore Roosevelt .

While Boldini's portraits of the Subercaseaux boys portray them conventionally as aware of the viewer, Zorn's portrait of the girls captures their private world, unaware of the viewer's gaze. To this end, Zorn adopts an unusual perspective, tilting the plane of the floor upwards and assuming the position of the girls himself.
