Down Cathedral, August 2009 The reputed burial place of Saint Patrick. Down Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, is a Church of Ireland cathedral located in the town of Downpatrick in Northern Ireland. It stands on Cathedral Hill overlooking the town.
Downpatrick (from Irish Dún Pádraig, meaning 'Patrick's fort') [4] is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on the Lecale peninsula, about 21 mi (34 km) south of Belfast. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Dál Fiatach, the main ruling dynasty of Ulaid. Its cathedral is said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick. [5]

It lies precisely on the head of Downpatrick Head, 5 kilometres from the town of Ballycastle in County Mayo, Ireland. [6] At a distance of 20 metres and 228 metres deep, it lies just above the sea. It is 45 metres high, 63 metres wide and 23 metres wide. [7]
Patrick is said to be buried at Down Cathedral in Downpatrick, County Down, alongside Saint Brigid and Saint Columba, although this has never been proven.
