[4] Following the release of the EP Scuba, on the Brighton-based label Fly Casual Recordings, and the single "Terrapin", Bonobo was offered label deals with XL Recordings and Mute Records, but he chose to remain with Tru Thoughts.

The bonobo is slightly shorter and thinner than the common chimpanzee, but has longer limbs. In trees, both species climb with their long, powerful arms; on the ground, chimpanzees usually knuckle-walk , or walk on all fours, clenching their fists and supporting themselves on the knuckles.
AllMusic gave the album 2.5 stars out of 5, stating that it "slowly builds its way into a steady and enjoyable debut". [3] Pitchfork gave the album a score of 7.6/10, praising Bonobo (aka Simon Green) "for his smooth and calming sound, but detrimental use of previous Ninja Tune and Tru Thoughts records".
