Frederick Steven Couples (born October 3, 1959) is an American professional golfer who has competed on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. A former World No. 1 , he has won 64 professional tournaments, most notably the Masters Tournament in 1992 , [ 2 ] and the Players Championship in 1984 and 1996 .
Fred Couples won his only major championship, two strokes ahead of 49-year-old runner-up Raymond Floyd, the 1976 champion. [1] [2] He was the first American winner in five years at Augusta, the longest run at the Masters without a winner from the U.S.; the previous four were won by players from Europe, all from the United Kingdom.
