The National Science and Maths Quiz is an annual science and mathematics content-based national level quiz competition for senior high schools in Ghana. The yearly competition is been produced by Primetime Limited , an education-interest advertising and public relations agency, since 1993.
Prempeh College was the first school to win the National Science and Maths Quiz in 1994 and 1996. [13] The College also won the 2015, 2017 and 2021 editions of the Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz that makes them one of the most successful schools in the National Science and Maths Quiz competitions.
The college won the finals of the 2019 edition of the Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz. This was the second time the college had emerged winners of the competition, after having won it for the first time in 2007. Also in 2007, St. Augustine's College won the first and only edition of the West African Science and Math Quiz competition.
On 8 October 2020, the school won the National Maths and Science Quiz contest for the sixth time by beating Adisadel College and Opoku Ware Senior High School in the finals. The school was founded by the Methodist Church of Ghana and started as a Middle Boys Boarding School at a bungalow at the Freeman College, opposite the Wesley College in Kumasi. The school started with its first headmaster, Rev. Arthur W. Banks (M.A B.Sc). He was assisted by both Messrs A. C. Denteh and Eric Awua, with just 13 students.

During the third term of the 1986/87 academic year, Mr. A. E. Kyere (a.k.a. Kontonkyi) assumed duty as the third Headmaster of the school. It was under him that the school improved academically. In 1999, the school was for the first time, invited to take part in the National Science and Maths Quiz Competitions.
