It doesn't really lose all it's flavor, your brain just blocks it out cause it's no longer new, interesting, worth informing you about. If someone was chewing gum until it 'lost its flavor' and then gave it to you, you'd be able to still taste the flavor. It won't be as strong, but it's still there.

Gum is made out of rubber, and it's mixed with sugar and flavorings. Once those flavor crystals and sugar crystals dissolve, you're chewing on vaguely flavored rubber. Granted, but since a single gum doesn't loose it's flavor this leads to a huge drop of sales , since there isn't any point in buying a new one. As a result all gum companies slowly start closing down leaving thousands of people unemployed , unable to support their families.
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol which they said they don't want. But I have heard they are better for your teeth and can even repair teeth with xylitol. I chew a ton of gum, my preferred is Ice Cubes grape flavor. Not a fan of mint personally.
When gum becomes tasteless is because that flavour is mostly gone already. That's also why if you suck it hard you can still get a little bit of flavour. Also, anyone that has had gum in their mouth long enough realises that it does not become entirely tasteless, but gets an aftertaste, which is the real flavour of the resin
