This looks to be Dracaena fragrans 'Massangea' or the mass cane. It is a very popular tropical plant from Africa. In the wild this plant reaches 15 m (49 ft) but specimens grown indoors can be easily kept at ceiling height (about 2 m or 6 to 8 ft). Your plant has a red waxy substance on the end of the cane due to how it is grown.
5. I have a Dracaena fragrans (corn plant) which is dying. I originally purchased it just over a year ago, when a similar plant I had (Yucca elephantisis) died in a similar manner. Basically, what happens is that the new growth on the cane starts to turn brown and dry out from the bottom upward. I originally had 3 canes, and now I'm down to a ...
I just brought home a Dracaena fragrans a couple of weeks ago, and it is in dire straits. Hoping someone here will have some ideas. The problem(s): Leaves turning brown from the base of the leaf (not the tip). Brown leaves easily pull off with just a tug. This seems to be happening to leaves near the top of the stalk.

Culprit no 1. You need to be abole to soak every squared inch of that soil, and you'll only be able to do so by giving it 125% of the water it needs and watch the 25% excess drain down the plate. Also, direct sun is dangerous to dracaenas. Its leaves will lose their color, get paler.
Feb 27, 2023 5:41 PM CST. Thread OP. Weybridge, Surrey, UK. One of the stems of my Dracaena Fragrans shrivelled terribly as you can see on the picture. The leaves also started turning brown very fast. I thought it was a bug so I removed burnt leaves and sprayed it with vinegar and soap water but after that it rotted even quicker.
