The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame. [3] Originating as an idea by artist Hugh Sawrey, RM Williams was an original board member of this institution that was opened in Longreach, Queensland, by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on 29 April 1988. Founded the Australian Roughriders Association.
Sawrey exhibited widely throughout Australia and in 1979 was selected as one of two Australian artists to represent Australia in "The Horses of the World" exhibition at the Tryon gallery, London, the world's foremost sporting gallery. In 2000 Tom was inducted into the National Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs, and in 2003 he was officially recognised as an Outback Legend by Australian Geographic magazine.
