Hi all, I am looking to get nerf gun as a Christmas present for my 7 year old boy. Got him two “6 shooter” type nerf gun previously, but they jam constantly. Willing to spend around $50 per gun - need not be fully automatic. Thanks!
1- Regulator. Select-fire is just so damn fun, blaster is heavy and rather big, but after almost a year it is my main guy. 2- Mediator. It takes you about a round to realize how good it is, a slam-fire-pumping beast. The stock attachment is again a bit big, but that back up pistol is awesome. 3- Hammershot.
A Nerf Nemesis or Adventure Force Quantum would be the top pick here, both being extremely similar, providing 100 rounds full auto. Make sure to get the Rival rechargeable battery (it works in the Quantum too). The Nerf Hades is also great if you want something a little lighter, holding 60 rounds and being spring powered.

Most Nerf Elite-style blasters are designed for kids around that age, and if it looks fun, it probably will be fun. Most of the Elite-style revolvers are cool, such as the Strongarm, Disruptor, Eaglepoint, Blitzfire, Hammershot, Commander. I would definitely recommend Dart Zone darts to replace the Nerf darts. They're significantly more accurate.

Some towns are just different, ie. the nerf section in my Walmart is a tiny little space in the back of the store with terrible variety and hardly any sales past 10%.
