One in each door by the door striker and one under the hood by the passenger side windshield. There are two wires to each switch and when the hood or doors are open and the alarm is armed it will close the circuits at the pins and sound the alarm. I believe the siren is under the rear fender unless they moved it in later models.

That will make the alarm relay (the one you're wondering about) click "on", but apparently without setting off the alarm horn itself. The current through the switched on relay alone, regardless of whether its shuttling any power to any other circuit, is enough to kill your battery overnight if it's a bit marginal.

Thank goodness I spent the $12 on the new key fob, which led me to find out that the alarm relay was bad. I cancelled the flatbed, but will keep my appointment with the mechanic on Wednesday, because I do still get C1278 (TCS Temporarily Inhibited By PCM) and C1282 (Yaw Rate Sensor Bias Circuit Malfunction).
