This was the first of a series of Warner Bros. Nancy Drew films. Three followed in 1939: Nancy Drew... Reporter, then Nancy Drew... Trouble Shooter, and ending with Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. All four were directed by William Clemens and featured Bonita Granville, John Little as Nancy's father, and Frankie Thomas.
It is the fourth and final film in the original Nancy Drew film series and a sequel to Nancy Drew... Trouble Shooter (1939). The film stars Bonita Granville as teenage amateur detective Nancy Drew, Frankie Thomas as her boyfriend, and John Litel as her father. It was loosely based on the novel of the same name by Mildred Wirt Benson.
In 1938, Granville was cast by Warner Bros. to play the role of girl detective Nancy Drew in a series of B movies based on the novels. The films were meant to resemble the popular Torchy Blane film series starring Glenda Farrell .
