The Royal Canadian Air Cadets (French: Cadets de l'Aviation royale du Canada) is a Canadian national youth program for young individuals aged 12 to 18.Under the authority of the National Defence Act, the program is administered by the Canadian Forces (CF) and funded through the Department of National Defence (DND).
The Air Cadet Gliding Program is a youth gliding program operated by the Canadian Forces (CF) and the Air Cadet League of Canada for the benefit of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The program is managed by CF officers (most of whom are CIC officers), and is the largest producer of glider pilots in Canada. [ 2 ]
The Air Cadet League of Canada operates in collaboration with the Canadian Armed Forces, among other partners, to spearhead non-profit driven initiatives all while keeping today's Canadian boys and girls (between the ages of 12–18) interested in their personal and career development in aviation. The National Office is in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
In more recent times the college had been growing quicker than ever, becoming the largest in Canada. In 2006 the school was awarded the largest pilot training contract ever in Canada, to train 800 Chinese pilots. [4] The college announced in 2007 it would soon open a new campus in Fredericton to handle the quickly increasing student population. [5]
Officer and Naval Cadets at RMC Saint-Jean are eligible for the Regular Officer Training Program. This program is designed for officer candidates to obtain a bachelor degree (which is required to be an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces) while attending either the Royal Military College in Saint-Jean or the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario.
Course cadets participate in the Canadian National Cadet Fullbore Championship, the United Kingdoms International Fullbore Championship in Bisley, England and the Dominion of Canada Rifle Associations' National Fullbore Championship. In 1982, Canada Post released a 17¢ stamp of an inverted Snowbird No. 5 with the airframe number 114155. On 8 June 1994, the Snowbirds were awarded the 1994 Belt of Orion Award for Excellence by Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. On 16 October 1999, the squadron was presented their squadron colour for 25 years of service.
