According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 33.8 square miles (88 km 2) of which 32.9 square miles (85 km 2) is land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km 2) (3.09%) is water. [5] The city is located northwest of Montgomery and along Interstate 65 and U.S. Route 82 .
Autauga County was established on November 21, 1818, by an act of the Alabama Territorial Legislature (one year before Alabama was admitted as a State). As established, the county included present-day Autauga County, as well as Elmore County and Chilton County.

The Daniel Pratt Cotton Gin Manufactory (Continental Eagle Corporation 1986–2012) was a cotton gin factory created by Daniel Pratt in 1854 (Present Buildings on west side of Autauga Creek), in what is now Prattville, Alabama, [1] a town named for him.
Later used as the Prattville Post Office. Prattville Rexall Drugs (160 West Main Street); built 1904, c. 1928 for First National Bank (west half) and Prattville Drug Co. (east half; built 1907). The east building burnt down in 1928, was rebuilt, and in 1957 the west side was purchased and made into Prattville Rexall Drugs.
