The massive mausoleum comprises the grave mound with a height above 50 m (160 ft) and numerous accompanying pits with funerary objects. Of these, the most famous is the Terracotta Army (pictured), thousands of life-sized and realistic terracotta statues of warriors, as well as horses and chariots. The site was discovered in 1974.

The carvings date back as far as the 7th century AD, depicting and influenced by Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist beliefs.
Jiefangbei consists of a large pedestrian square [1] surrounding the 27.5-meter (90 ft)-tall People's Liberation Monument (celebrating China's victory in World War II). The 25,000 square meters (270,000 sq ft) shopping square is flanked by a large number of large multinational department stores, streetfront luxury boutiques, and upscale restaurants, as well as commercial supertall skyscrapers.
