Interstate 35 (I-35 [a]) is a major north–south Interstate Highway that runs from Laredo, Texas near the Mexican border to Duluth, Minnesota. In Texas, the highway begins in Laredo and runs north to the Red River north of Gainesville, where it crosses into Oklahoma.
The I-35 NEX Program–including Central, South, and North projects – involves the construction of two elevated structures that will carry two general purpose lanes and one HOV lane in each direction. The elevated structures will be constructed between the existing I-35 mainlanes and frontage roads.

IH 35 is one of the busiest Interstates in Texas, joining the growing metropolitan areas of San Antonio, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth with Mexico at Laredo and Oklahoma City to the north. The freeway corridor replaced US 81 from Laredo north to Fort Worth, and US 77 from Hillsboro north through Dallas.
