I'm looking for the palette you can see when you play with an original GB cartridge, or when you convert a game like Tetris for GB Studio. It's so greenish with very poor contrast, so it's like playing with an original Gameboy DMG with the poor display. And of course I need the Pixel Filter, which allows you to see the individual pixels nicely.
Is there an official palette of the original Game boy palette or any other Game boy? Or a community accepted 4-color palette one? POST HAS BEEN EDITED. Thanks to u/hilarino, who sent me photos of their game boy. I then downloaded the last picture, which turned out the best. Using Gimp i created 4 images from a selection of the 4 colors.
Hi, everyone! It's me, TheWolfBunny! For those of you new here to this RetroArch post, since 2019, as part of the Game Boy's 30th anniversary, I've been distributing all-new Game Boy palettes for the first time in 25 years since the Super Game Boy!
I like Game Boy games looking monochrome, so I generally prefer the Gameboy Pocket color palette in Gambatte with simple frame blending. It just looks ‘right’ to me, and isn’t as mannered as the DMG filter.
There isn't a mode that replicates the original Game Boy's green tint, but I enjoy the sepia palette you get when you just press up. Thanks for this! My google attempts before posting resulted in too many unrelated palette results. Yes I've found I enjoyed UP and B+LEFT. I find that I either want color or shades of monochrome.
The Game Boy Color actually came with a special (limited) color palette designed specifically for Metroid II. Here are some other Game Boy games that got special/limited color sets retroactively: Pokemon Blue/Red & Yellow (especially), Super Mario Land 1/2, Wario Land, and Kirby's Dreamland 1/2.
It literally only colors certain elements in the game this color and certain sprites, but nothing else. I just want this color palette to cover the entire screen the same way, the original Game Boy's green color palette covers the entire screen. I've played around with the colors and I'm not getting it to do what I need it to do.
Oh, thanks for the tip! I was mere interested at making the drawings look GameBoy Advance-ish looking but seeing the color palette, I realize it has more to do with the games that I've played than what is available in the GBA itself as a whole. I was thinking of more pastel-looking colors since majority of the GBA games I've played looked like it.
I really like the "Nintendo Official (5/47) GBC Brown" palette. Looks like the v4 yellow house color so it's a good harmony.
There's some great rom hacks for gameboy games that add color to games like Super Mario Land 2 (With playable Luigi), Metroid II Samus Returns, and Super Mario Land. Also the japanese version of Donkey Kong Land III is a GBC game so if you get a translation patch, there you go you've got color!
