Alpha Alpha Alpha is an American honor society for first-generation college students. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It was formed in 2018 at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania . [ 1 ] [ 3 ] In the following chapter list, active chapters are indicated in bold and inactive chapters are in italics .
The university was founded in 1961 by the Alabama Baptist State Convention under the name of Mobile College. [2] In 1993, the college was renamed the University of Mobile in reference to its location in Mobile County, not to be confused with the City of Mobile. [3] For the 2018-2019 year, it had 1,885 students. [4]
It was created by the Alabama Legislature in May 1963, and replaced existing extension programs operated in Mobile by the University of Alabama. The first classes were held in June 1964, with an enrollment of 276 students; the first commencement was held in June 1967, with 88 bachelor's degrees awarded.
