The same physically interchangeable cell size or battery size may have widely different characteristics; physical interchangeability is not the sole factor in substituting a battery. [ 1 ] The full battery designation identifies not only the size, shape and terminal layout of the battery but also the chemistry (and therefore the voltage per ...
SR44 and LR44 have a very different discharge curve. A product designed for an SR44 battery will not work well if you substitute an LR44. 71.106.228.229 17:12, 21 March 2010 (UTC) LR44 and SR44 are the same physical size. However, the terminal voltage of the SR version is a tad higher (1.55v -v- 1.5v) and its capacity is also higher.
Standard battery nomenclature describes portable dry cell batteries that have physical dimensions and electrical characteristics interchangeable between manufacturers. The long history of disposable dry cells means that many manufacturer-specific and national standards were used to designate sizes, long before international standards were reached.
Button, coin, or watch cells. A button cell, watch battery, or coin battery is a small battery made of a single electrochemical cell and shaped as a squat cylinder typically 5 to 25 mm (0.197 to 0.984 in) in diameter and 1 to 6 mm (0.039 to 0.236 in) high – resembling a button.
A variety of standard sizes of primary cells. From left: 4.5V multicell battery, D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA, A23, 9V multicell battery, (top) LR44, (bottom) CR2032 A primary battery or primary cell is a battery (a galvanic cell) that is designed to be used once and discarded, and it is not rechargeable unlike a secondary cell (rechargeable battery).

They are not manufacturer names, who notoriously rename batteries (at least with the more obscure sizes) to confuse customers into buying their specific brand of battery. (See LR44_battery as an example) Tiki God 10:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC) I would like to see mention of where these so-called "common names" originated too.
Several sizes of button and coin cells, some of which are silver oxide. A silver oxide battery (IEC code: S) is a primary cell using silver oxide as the cathode material and zinc for the anode.
