Wewahitchka is a city in Gulf County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,074 as of the 2020 census. From the creation of Gulf County in 1925 until 1965, it served as the county seat before the county seat was moved to Port St. Joe. The City of Wewahitchka was settled around 1870 and officially founded in 1875.
Gulf County, created in 1925, was named for the Gulf of Mexico. Wewahitchka was its first county seat and the 1927 Gulf County Courthouse is still in existence. In 1965 the county seat was moved to Port Saint Joe, which under its original name Saint Joseph, had been the site of Florida's first Constitutional Convention in 1838.
The Keith Cabin is a historic house located at 1320 CR 179, northwest of Bonifay in Holmes County, Florida. It was built in 1886. It was deemed significant "as an excellent and rare example of a 19th century log cabin built with a 'Louisiana' roof. It retains a high level of its architectural integrity, and displays excellent workmanship." [2]
