Portadown forms part of the Upper Bann constituencies for the Northern Ireland Assembly and UK Parliament. It was created for the 1985 local elections , mainly replacing Craigavon Area B which had existed since 1973, where it originally contained seven wards (Annagh, Ballybay, Ballyoran, Brownstown, Corcrain, Tavanagh and The Birches).
