My experience with new Savage rifles has been good. I bought a new model 10fp in .308 several years ago and have long ago shot the barrel out. It was a consistent .5 moa rifle and got me started in the early days of F class competition when the same target was used that the sling shooters use.
Savage and Wal-Mart seemed to have created a Savage Mk II 22LR, with a threaded tapered bull barrel, Accu-Trigger, in a bright green Boyd At-One laminated stock, with adjustable LOP butt plate and adjustable cheek riser, that comes with a cheap Weaver scope.
I bought the Savage 112 338 Lapua rifle from a buddy (Randy Wise) that set the ELR World Record in 2019 with the factory 26" barrel. Other than an ARS chassis it's still stock. He told me before that match it had one of the worst looking barrel and chamber he'd ever scoped but it shot incredible so he went with it with good results.
The Savage Model 99 lever-action rifle is no longer in production, and over the past two decades or so the .300 Savage has faded in popularity, eclipsed by its own progeny the .308 Winchester and other more powerful short-action cartridges. Despite its decline as a sporting round, the .300 Savage remains quite popular with handloaders.
Barrel Shank Sizes:The shank diameter on Savage's standard calibers is 1.055" The Savage rifles chambered in Remington Ultra Mag and Winchester Short Magnum have a larger shank diameter. These measure 1.120" The outside of the barrel nut is the same diameter on both the standard calibers and the Ultra Mag - WSM calibers.
Savage made the 1903 available in 22 short only and 22 S,L,& LR for a couple of years at the beginning ofproduction. Besides fewer parts than the tube magazine pump guns like the Rem M-12/121, Winchester M-61, the later magazines prevented the bolt from closing on an empty magazine, thus preventing dry firing.
My recent find is Savage 110 6.5 creedmoor accu trigger and stock that starts with a P but the last number listed is H I think in 2010 and pre accu trigger is F post is G. Based on this do the letters keep going up yearly P being 2016?? The other problem is the rifles do not have the actual type of 110 like long range or mountain hunter.
If you want a gun to shoot with better sights or a scope get yourself a 10/22 and add anything you want. While 200 dollars does not sound like a big value just a few years ago a gun like this could sell for 75 to 100 dollars and 200 would be a ridiculous asking price. These older 22 rifles are diamonds in the rough.
Nope it is just the 325's and 340's he disliked. He sings the praises of the many other savage rifles he has had. Maybe Ill give the 325 30-30 i found yesterday a shot. My understanding of the 30-30 is the cartridge will come apart before you can load it hot enough to hurt most bolt guns.
I have 3 Xbolts and 1 savage. The x bolts are 7mm-08, 6.5 creedmoor and 308. The savage is in 7mm WSM and they all are very accurate. The Savage shoots everything to around 1”. I guess what I’m saying is you can’t go wrong with either. I never shot a Tikka but everything I read says they are a great rifle. Good luck in your decision.
