Template index/WikiProject banners is part of WikiProject Birds, an attempt at creating a standardized, informative and easy-to-use ornithological resource. If you would like to participate, visit the project page , where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
This template adds a light brown box to the Main Page, appearing directly above TFA and ITN.It is used for various special occasions, and is otherwise kept blank. When updating, please use plain text; the box itself is added on the Main Page.
To get there, type "Template:foo" in the search box (see search), or make a wikilink like [[Template:foo]] somewhere, such as in the sandbox, and click on it. Once you are there, just click "edit" or "edit this page" at the very top of the page (not the documentation edit button lower down) and edit it in the same way that you would any other page.
Microsoft Word allows creating both layout and content templates. A layout template is a style guide for the file styles. It usually contains a chapter which explains how to use the styles within the documents. A content template is a document which provides a table of contents. It might be modified to correspond to the user's needs.
If you are producing a banner and want it to be able to fit in a standard banner slot, it should match one of the sizes given at standard banner sizes. Please group by and give the size to make it easy for people to find the banner which will fit their space.

Standardisation assists editors who add project banners to new or untagged articles as well as makes things easier for bots and scripts that work with project banners, or editors trying to identify banner templates in the editing window. As such, it is encouraged that future banners use the standard Template:WikiProject Project form.
