In December 1846, Joel Perkins, founder of Lafayette, laid out the townsite and persuaded the House of Representatives of the Provisional Government to declare it as the seat of Yamhill County. In the years 1846–50, the various courts were convened in a large, unused room in Hawn's tavern, since there was no courthouse existed.
These courts hear civil and criminal court cases. The state has 27 circuit court districts, most of which correspond to the boundaries of Oregon's 36 counties . The sixth, seventh, tenth, fifteenth, twenty-second and twenty-fourth districts cover two or more counties while the rest cover just one county each.
George Burnett was born in Yamhill County, Oregon on May 9, 1853, as the son of George W. and Sidney Younger. [1] His parents had immigrated to Oregon over the Oregon Trail in 1846. [2] George junior attended public schools in Yamhill County before starting his college education at McMinnville College where he attended until 1871. [2]
Built in 1895, this is the most intact and architecturally sophisticated of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in Yamhill County. It served students in kindergarten through 8th grade until it closed in 1957, and has since been converted into a house. It is the sole remnant of the former railroad town of Briedwell. [7] 7
