Run a test to 75.75.75.75, 75.75.76.76 or other Comcast DNS server. These servers de-prioritize ICMP traffic and will provide false-positives. Run a test to your modem/gateway's external IP address while on your network. Run a test while connected to a VPN service.
Up until about a month ago, I was seeing between 970Mbs and 1.0 Gb on the speed test. On WiFi (laptop) getting about 550 Mbs, probably due to back chanenl communication over the mesh system, etc. Very acceptable. About a month or two, ago, the speed test dropped to between 490Mbs and 510Mbs (on the wire) and has remained there.
The Xfinity speed test stopped working on my Windows desktop PC, but it works on my wireless devices. I can run other speed tests so that's not an issue. I want to know why the Xfinity one stopped working on my PC.
My Internet is so slow I can't connect to run a speed test
Also if I run a speed test to Speedtest.net (selecting the closest Comcast server) I get about 1M down and 0.5M up when we are signed up for 600/15 service. The same results if I use the xfinity speed test tool, and as I mentioned the modem itself fails it’s connectivity test returning only 3/4 pings in the ping tester.
As in previous posts in 2021, I'm having an issue with the Xfinity Speedtest link for the PC on an ethernet connection.
8 ) Turn off security software briefly and test speeds. Antivirus and malware software can significantly impact speeds if they are too restrictive. Do not run multiple antivirus programs. Your operating system may also have overly restrictive security settings. 9) Boot into safe mode with networking and test speeds.
This differs from traditional internet speed tests, like our Xfinity Speed Test, which measure the speed reaching the device that’s running the test itself. Speed to Gateway results are often higher than results from a traditional speed test because they aren't impacted by various factors like WiFi conditions or device capabilities.
Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I was referring to my wifi speed. I know I can’t expect full speed through wifi, but my laptop is just a few feet away from the Xfinity gateway and I should be getting more than 200 Mbps. Testing the speed through a direct ethernet connection is a great idea.
