Lawyers know a lot about a bunch of areas of the law, and cops don't need to know most of them. Cops don't need to understand civil procedure, or tort law, or the principles that guide and bind contracts, for example. They have a very narrow focus of things they deal with regularly- traffic law, search and seizure, civil rights, criminal statutes.
United States v. Gatson (2014). Judge Martini ruled that law enforcement can create fake social network profiles in order to search through a suspect’s account. Cops can lure suspects into “friending” them and then use the content of their Facebook, Instagram or other social media accounts against them in court.
I do agree that the 14 days is pretty arbitrary. Some sort of time period is appropriate though. Neither cops nor courts should be required to determine if the suspect has invoked his rights somewhere at any time in the past before questioning a suspect. The two year gap in the actual case was more than enough time.
Seven articles met the inclusion criteria, offering a range of 4.8–40% of officers who self-report perpetrating domestic violence [with a pooled rate of 21.2%.] Discrepancies in prevalence rates may be attributable to measurement and sampling decisions. For information, 2 were published in 2012.

A lot of cops suffer PTSD, Depression, and other conditions. Not to mention rampant alcoholism and substance abuse. Law enforcement do not receive much professional psychological support. Retired law enforcement in particular seem to go through a lot of post-career distress for which they receive almost no support.
Neidig, P.H., Russell, H.E. & Seng, A.F. (1992). Interspousal aggression in law enforcement families: A preliminary investigation. Police Studies, Vol. 15 (1), p. 30-38. Other studies show a lower rate (around 25%), but it's important to remember that this lower rate is still 2-4 times the rate of IPV in the general population.
Most cops would still go bankrupt from the cost of the lawsuit alone as our legal system is incredibly expensive. No one is suggesting someone be considered 'above the law', just that there needs to be a middle ground between 'cops can be sued for doing their job in good faith' and 'cops are unaccountable demigods from a legal perspective'.
A few minutes later, about a dozen cops showed up and started rounding everybody up. The shooter was in handcuffs and started crying and talking to the cops in Spanish. Then his brother started yelling at the cops that they got the wrong guy, and that HE was the shooter. The brothers then started yelling at each other. This was all in Spanish.
