An unarmored Tortle Monk is not wearing armor, so it gets the benefit of Unarmored Movement. Even from a conceptual viewpoint, it seems that the behind Unarmored Movement is that worn armor is an artificial constraint that interferes with the extra mobility and flexibility granted to the monk by their training, which is already going beyond ...

    2. Closed 7 years ago. Depending on your skills, at some point the Monk's Unarmored Defense (10 + DEX + WIS) can and will exceed the Tortle's Natural Armor of 17. When this happens, do you get the choice of taking the highest of the two, or are you stuck with one or the other? IE, will Unarmored Defense always overwrite Natural Armor, or will ...

Do the claws of Tabaxi and Tortles change the unarmed attacks of monk to slashing damage, or is the damage separate? Does the unarmed slashing damage increase with the monk's level, as described on...

But the Tortle’s Natural Armor feature says you gain no benefit from wearing armor. So usually, the magic of the armor is explicitly going to be a benefit of wearing it, unless the armor’s description says that it doesn’t have to be worn to gain magical benefits.

    rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/120032/do-tortles-get-a-bonus-to-ac-from-a...

For a tortle wielding a shield, this question is going to have an impact on how useful this ability is. If the shield does not confer a benefit when in this mode, then they are effectively only getting a +2 AC which is a significant decrease in benefit given the costs. Does a tortle still gain the benefit of wielding a shield while in Shell ...

  7. D&D 5E Tortle Monks? - EN World

    www.enworld.org/threads/tortle-monks.677334

The main issue I see is that a lot of the benefits of taking the class don't benefit a tortle. I wouldn't mind losing some effectiveness in exchange for building an interesting character, but losing a significant chunk of the class's benefits is rough. Unarmed Defense doesn't help.

jgsugden said: No armor is a feature, not a limitation, of the monk. They have offsetting abilities. Regardless, you're discouraging the Tortle as a reasonable choice for race for any player that is concerned, at all, with efficiency with the RAW. When a primary benefit of the race overlaps with a primary benefit of your class, you're unlikely ...

According to The Tortle Package . Natural Armor. Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn't affect this number).

You can technically get a bit higher by playing a Tortle. While you sacrifice 1 AC from having a lesser Ability Score Increase, you get +4 AC while using Shell Defense: You can withdraw into your shell as an action. Until you emerge, you gain a +4 bonus to AC, and you have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws.

Half-Orc (PHB) Pros: +2 Str, +1 Con. Proficiency in Intimidation. Relentless Endurance lets you tank a mortal blow 1/day. Savage Attacks meshes really well with the Barbarian's Brutal Critical feature. Half-Orcs are pretty much the de-facto traditional Barbarian race for players. Cons:
