When Secret Lair releases cards that you are unable to get throughout the year in the sets that are released, then it makes much more sense to buy into it. I, along with my playgroup, are more than annoyed that they've gone to this fomo business model, though. There was nothing wrong with them doing it the way they were doing it last year, imo.
It looks worse in pictures than it does in person, and it's why you can't always trust what you see online. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some of the bitterness is coming from people not getting the lair, and some of the bitterness is coming from people disliking the Secret Lair release format in general.
