As the oldest person on this forum and probably the longest Houston resident I declare southwest Houston to be south of Katy road and west of Main street. That's the way it was in 1945, by damn. I lived in the Montrose. Neighbors built the first houses on Little John Lane. It was always called Memorial area , but it was in Southwest Houston.

I was born and raised around W. Bellfort and Gessner (I'm 23 now) and am pretty familiar with SW Houston. The Fondren SW will be an area for immigrant families and minority professionals for a long. The closer you get to the loop (westbury, willowbend, meyerland, etc), the better the area gets generally.

I find Miami a breeze…easy to get to from where I live (a consistent 15-20 minutes), I have status with American so prefer it to Atlanta and Houston for that reason, and I’ve breezed through Customs on international flights using Mobile Pass….I don’t have Global Entry but the AA Priority TSA lines move fairly quickly….where it lacks, outside of airline clubs, is airport dining options.

About one-sixth of all Texas counties—and a great many cities—are named for Mexicans or Spaniards or after place-names in Spain or Mexico. In 2000, 13,230,765 Texans—68.8% of the population five years old or older—spoke only English at home, down from 74.6% in 1990. The following table gives selected statistics from the 2000 census for ...
